Home Ownership Rights and
the Fair Housing Act Home ownership, for the most part, can have the
most dramatic impact on an individual or family budget, investment
and lifestyle than any other single transaction. To ensure the fairness
and accessibility of your dream, the Fair housing Act was created.
And, along with other federal, state and local laws was enacted
to guarantee your right to the real estate market anywhere in the
country.
35 years ago, the Fair Housing Act was enacted into law. This landmark
Act prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, religion,
sex, national origin, disability or familial status.
Anyone who believes they have experienced housing discrimination
should call HUD's Housing Discrimination Hotline at (800) 669-9777,
or visit HUD's fair housing web site at www.hud.gov/offices/fheo.
